This summer, Koyal turns its attention to the sea. Our Seafood Celebrationis a one-night-only tasting evening dedicated to the vibrant seafood traditions of India's magnificent coastline - and it takes place at our Surbiton dining room on Wednesday 15 July 2026, from 6:30 PM.

India's coast tells two very different stories: the West Coast, stretching from Maharashtra down to Kerala, and the East Coast, from Bengal to Tamil Nadu. Each has its own ingredients, spices, and time-honoured techniques. For this first chapter, Chef Nand Kishor Semwal and the team have built a menu around the West Coast - and paired every course with a carefully chosen, spice-driven wine.

A six-course journey along the West Coast

The evening is a single, flowing six-course tasting menu. It opens with a welcome bite of Goan shrimp balchao - bright with chilli and garlic - alongside a chilled shrimp rasam scented with curry leaf. From there it travels down the coast: Karnataka squid pepper fry with samphire and roasted garlic mayo, then Mangalorean charcoal-grilled king scallops with spiced courgette masala and crispy cauliflower fritters.

A roasted cumin and kokum shikanjee resets the palate before the richest courses arrive - a Malabari spiced jumbo prawn with curry leaf, roasted coconut and tamarind, served with a golden-fried podi masala idly, followed by a Konkani stone bass fillet in a green mango, coconut and kokum sauce with lime and curry leaf rice. Dinner closes with bebinca, the layered caramel-and-coconut baked pudding from Goa's fishing villages, served with frozen roasted coconut yoghurt and jaggery sauce. If you already love our coastal prawn dishes, this is the menu built entirely around them.

Wine pairings built for spice

Pairing wine with Indian food is an art, and it is one we take seriously - you can read more about how we approach wine pairing at Koyal. For the Seafood Celebration, each course is matched to a wine chosen to carry coastal spice rather than fight it: a Provence rosé with the squid, an Australian Riesling with the scallops, a Central Otago Pinot Gris with the jumbo prawn, and a Sula Chenin Blanc from Nashik with the stone bass. The bebinca is finished with a Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. Wines are served at 100ml with each course, and 50ml for the dessert wine.

The details

The Seafood Celebration runs for one evening only: Wednesday 15 July 2026, from 6:30 PM. The six-course food menu is £70 per person, with the optional curated wine pairing at £35 per person. Seats are limited and the evening is expected to sell out, so a £50 advance deposit confirms your booking. If you have enjoyed our regular tasting menu, this is a chance to experience the kitchen working in a single, focused theme.
