A 2 AA Rosette tasting menu at £20 sounds like a typo. It is not. Koyal's lunch set menuruns Tuesday through Friday in our Surbiton dining room, offering a three-course version of the kitchen's style at a price designed to make fine Indian dining a midweek habit, not an occasion.
What you get for £20
A starter, a main, and a side or dessert - all drawn from the same kitchen that produces our a la carte and tasting menus. Recent lunch options have included pani puri, chicken lollipop, dal makhani, masala butter chicken, and a vegan dal tadka. The format changes monthly, but the standard is the standard.
The lunch menu is the same kitchen, the same ingredients, the same dining room. Nothing is downgraded for the price point - the only difference is portion size, which is calibrated for a midweek lunch rather than a weekend feast.
Why it works
Surbiton lunches tend to fall into two categories: quick high-street chains, or sit-down meals that lean expensive. Koyal's lunch set lands deliberately between the two. You get the full sit-down experience - waiter service, table linen, a glass of something - without committing to an evening-level bill. For people working from home or in nearby Kingston, it has become a regular fixture.
Pair it with the right drink
A glass of crisp white from our drinks list works beautifully with any of the lunch starters. If you are doing it properly, a mango lassi with the spicier mains is hard to beat.
How to book
The lunch set is available Tuesday to Friday, 12pm to 2.30pm. We recommend booking ahead for Fridays as it gets busy with the local lunch crowd. Reserve a lunch table at Koyal Surbiton, or read about our full a la carte and dinner offering.
